Gethel Z. Jones was born in Broke Jaw, Alabama, which is located not too far from Walkaway, Mississippi and Runaway, Arkansas. She has no brothers or sisters, but has a dear friend from her childhood years named Icie Mae Salisbury. Gethel was raised in the Christian School system of Alabama and left high school just shy of her graduation after being jilted by a suitor, whom she loved very much. She was a nanny, cook and housekeeper for some of the finest families in the State of Alabama. In her early 20’s she migrated north and settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There she began to work in the Michigan School System as a cafeteria worker. She worked there until her recent retirement. Her favorite pastime is fishing, and she is known for her Fish Fry Fundraisers. These fundraisers helped many of the smaller Christian Schools raise money for their specific needs. Her most prized possession is a medallion that her almost-favorite cousin, Buddy, gave her when she was a teenager. |

She was recognized by the former head master of Kalamazoo’s One-Room Schoolhouse’s (KORS) Parent and Teacher Association as being an Outstanding Cafeteria Worker, an honor that means the world to her. She holds memberships with “The Over-Fifty Gang,” “Seniors are People, Too,” “Cedar Citizens,” and “The American Silver Fisherman’s Club.” Garfield is Gethel’s favorite cartoon character, because, just like Garfield, she’s “not overweight, just under tall.” Currently Gethel and her dachshund, Turtle, live in the hills of Pennsylvania. She loves to read her Bible, and one of her favorite Bible verses is found in Ecclesiastes 12: 13, 14, which says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” She anxiously awaits the soon return of her Saviour. |
